Bay View Inn

Location. The Bay View Inn is located in Tangier, Va., on Tangier Island. The island, which is one mile wide and three miles long, is set in the Chesapeake Bay, and is bike and pedestrian only. The Bay View Inn is one-quarter mile from shops and restaurants. James Park Marina, fishing piers, beaches and boardwalks are also within one-quarter mile. The inn is one-half mile from Canton Ridge.
Features. The Bay View Inn features grounds complemented by fountains, gazebos and a free-standing bi-level deck with patio chairs. Full, complimentary breakfasts are served each morning. Dinner is available for a fee, and includes the signature dish of Tangier Island Crab Cakes and Crab Imperial. Complimentary wireless Internet and a fax machine are provided. Fishing, bird watching, and bicycle rentals are available at the inn. Pets are not allowed.

Guestrooms. Accommodations at the Bay View Inn include nine cottages connected with wooden plank walkways and common outdoor sitting areas, and two guestrooms located in the main house. All units include cable television. The nine cottages contain private bathrooms, and the guestrooms in the main house share bathrooms. Microwave ovens and refrigerators are provided in the cottages. Select rooms offer views of the beach and the inn's grounds.

Expert Tip. While the most common way to get around Tangier Island is by bike or on foot, the innkeepers can also arrange for golf cart rentals from local businesses.
